Seafood Birthday Party

After work yesterday, I went all the way to Casuarina Rd for some Ban Leong Wah Hoe Seafood for a friend's birthday party. It was SO delicious. It worked out to about $30-35 per person, but the guys were very kind and paid for the girls.

So here is my tale of a fabulous seafood dinner.

I arrive on time: 7:15 PM. We're all here by 8:10. Yes, I waited for a very long time, and I had time to buy a small tiramisu cake (which was delicious!!) from Chocz. I could seriously eat one cake by myself. DELICIOUS.

Apparently "pineapple" in Chinese sounds like "bring in luck"
...so this explains the hanging of pineapples everywhere

Before the showdown....while I was waiting.

Having fun with macro focus :p

Being totall American and drinking Coke

Lou Hei before we got to it.

Oh dear, the Lou Hei after we attacked (I mean.....mixed) it.

Oh look. Vegetables. Put sesame oil on just about anything, and I will eat it.

My short little arms meant that everyone helped me reach for food. It's a mixture of dried and thinly sliced fish and vegetables - plus some crunch fried bits of dough and heaven seeds (oh I'm sorry. I mean sesame seeds).

WHAT? WHAT IS THAT? Yes, yes.......yes it's venison. Deer meat. Lovely. Yum.
Baby corn makes every meat dish better.

This restaurant offers "drunken prawn" (what a lie), but we opted for the fried prawn instead (prawn = shrimp). Unfortunately, I don't eat things with eyes still in them. Except crab because crab trumps eyes.

Fried chicken wings. Delicious, but a bit too oily for me.

Most delicious fish ever!! The sauce was surprisingly similar to nuoc mam.

Chili crab (Singaporean specialty) was SO DELICIOUS. OMG.
It might have taken me about 20 minutes to get through the shell, but I have major weakness for crab.

Fried pau (bao) that you're suppose to eat with the chili crab sauce.

They tried to get me to try fried calamari. I told them I don't eat fried spiders. :)
I fed it to Hanying instead. Heehee

Yam cake.......they also tried to get me to eat this. They failed. Again.

Tiny Tiramisu Cake that was delicious and full of yummy coffee liquor!
Happy Birthday Hanying!

Ingredients of the Lou Hei

A cute pair of oxen. How auspicious.

Afterwards, we went to "Happy Daze" in Serangoon Gardens for some quality friend time and then went home. I couldn't fall asleep right away, so I bothered a bunch of my cousins in LA. :)

Much love,
M

From Big Bang Theory

I recently convinced one of my friends to watch the hit TV show Big Bang Theory, which is about four super nerds, three of which want women. They are attracted to women, but no woman is attracted to them. How sad! It's hilarious, and if you don't streaming, go to surfthechannel.com.

He agrees that is amazing, so I'm putting into my blog the Big Bang Theory of the ever popular game, Rock-Paper-Scissors:

Scissors cuts paper.
Paper covers rock.
Rock Crushes Lizard.
Lizard poisons Spock.
Spock smashes Scissors.
Scissors decapitates lizard.
Lizard eats paper.
Paper disproves Spock.
Spock vaporizes Rock.
And as it always has, Rock crushes Scissors.

I don't how to make the lizard sign, but really, really really - this was incredibly hilarious to watch. I love how both Rajesh Koothrappali, Ph.D. and Sheldon chose Spock.

I love this!!!!!!!!!  I only put it in because I'm going to change the information under my picture to something in Vietnamese.

Because I'm awesome. The end.

and Happy Groundhog's Day! I can't wait to hear the .....verdict.

Lunchtime! Oh Cravings :(

I'm thinking of what to have for lunch, and I really miss:

  • Joo Joo (which I heard is closed now. I have to find out how to make assorted fried rice now from Eric)
  • Fazoli's (oh man. so delicious)
  • Arby's (I miss curly fries. I miss that nasty re-re-reprocessed roast beef.)
  • Charleston's Baby Back Ribs (and mashed potatoes) YUM
  • Applebee's
  • OLIVE GARDEN
  • Chang Fu (rofl. on 86th street)
CRAVINGS. CRAVINGS!!!!!!!!! :(

Groundhog Day

oh yes. Monday is Groundhog Day.

Weight!

You know, I've never ever been confronted about my weight with anyone in the US. Ever since I can remember, I was always considered thin.

Then I came to Singapore.

And then I found out how chubby I really am.

Then again, most of the girls here would be considered anorexic in the US (not meaning that they all are, because my good friend Sam surely isn't one of them).

People actually tell me to lose weight. People that don't know me well tell me to lose weight!

I'm like.......I've never been confronted with this before.

I will never forget one girl that I saw. She was a waitress at Swensen's, and seriously, I thought she looked like a malnurished African. Her legs were so far apart from each other that it was quite grotesque.

I acknowledge that I wasn't as thin as I used to be, but:
  1. Why are people who I'm not close to at all comfortable with telling me to lose weight or teasing me about it? The nerve!
  2. It's my body, and I mostly eat healthy food! I ate like 10 lbs of grapes in the last two weeks (they're just really, really juicy and delicious). I've mostly had a diet consisting of chicken, fruit, yogurt, cereal and chocolate milk the last month, and it doesn't seem to help at all.
I work out almost every day for 20 minutes to get my heart rate up, and yes, when I put my knees together, my thighs touch. [I can't believe there are girls that can touch their knees togethr without the thighs touching. Ridiculous.]

I'm usually a private person, but this needs to be said, for that one American who is thinking of coming to Singapore/Asia to work!

My BMI is in a healthy range, than you. And I take multivitamins daily! Who cares if they're Flinestones??! :)

All in all, I'm considered chubby, and since I've held this weight for a long time now, I don't know what else to do other than get sick and stop eating. But I don't want to do this! I love food!!

I LOVE FOOD!
