My Secret, Secret Love

I recently learned about a Korean martial art called Shim Gum Do (Mind Sword Path).  I was telling my friend about it, but I told him that I'm currently halfway in love with Wushu. He asked me what it was. I just wanted to share the Youtube video here:

Mandarin Oranges

I ATE TEN MANDARIN ORANGES IN ONE WEEK. 

NEXT WEEK, I AM BUYING TWENTY. I LOVE MANDARIN ORANGES. 

They are easy to peel and to enjoy. And because I'm not eating in front of anyone else, I don't mind spitting out the seeds.

What a Wonderful World

Do you know what makes the world wonderful?  Perhaps puppies, Louis Armstrong, or pizza come to mind.

Well, I've got something better than all those - combined.

It's called "Crunchy Time," and it means that I woke up one day, walked to the bus stop listening to music, heard the most delicious-sounding crunch ever, looked up, and saw the entire sidewalk lined with crunchy leaves.

What Yield (Yellow Light) Means in Singapore

So in the US, from what little I remember of the Driver's Manual, a red light means STOP, a green light means GO, and a yellow light means IF YOU'RE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION, KEEP GOING - IF NOT, SLOW DOWN.

ok. so!

Today I was sitting at the bus stop, waiting for the next bus to come (since the other one came when I was about 2 blocks away...poo). Singaporeans are so ....so....funny!  I love that I saw not one but TWO cars make a mad dash to "beat the yellow light."

HAHA ROFL (roll on the floor laughing)! I saw two cars (at different intervals) that ran two red lights because in Singapore, the yellow light means SPEED UP, SUCKER.

Yes. I laughed a lot today.

NINJA TURTLES > Godzilla

A big shout out to Bryan for picking me up again! I was a bit sad today after meeting one of my friends from Purdue because he reminds me of all my friends & family back home who I miss terribly. But Bryan and I had a great conversation that included ninja turtles, godzilla, bunnies, a snake, lots of turtles, butterflies, birds, and maybe some droppings!

I'm listening to David Archuleta's Crush. And going to read Brisingr until I feel a little bit more eye-droopiness.

Had dinner at Sakae Sushi with Wes, and lunch with Felix at Geylang for some AMAZING BEEF KWAY TEO (HOR FUN). I am going to try to eat there at least once every 2 weekends!!!!!! DELISH!!!!! (Geylang's Lor 9 Beef Kway Teo)

It may not look like much, but baby, if you ever come to Singapore, you will love it as much as me.

Friday's Big Adventure!

Eden and I were good children (and due to a constant ringing phone and someone nagging someone else to WAKE UP) we made it in time to go to the hotel store to buy some swimming trunks for Eden. However, they asked us for about US$50 (for a PIECE OF UNDERWEAR! SERIOUSLY!) and I said that we can’t pay more than $15, so they were like….ok bye. Haha. Oh well. There were a lot of fake luxury goods (LV, Chanel, Gucci, Prada, etc.) that I was surprised to find in a nice hotel establishment.

So when we got to the lobby, we sat down and were approached by a Mr. Kantin representing Pandawa Marine Adventures. A driver drove us to (sorry, redundant) Tanjong Banoa, which is THE place to be for watersporting. We stopped by a small stall to buy Eden’s undies. LOL not really undies, but the ones you have to wear under board shorts, which are just UNDIES (haha) - for about US$8. Chi-Ching!

Then we renegotiated terms with the agent from the night before (Mr. Yeoman) and the manager of Pandawa to get two trips on the jet ski and one fly fish (because the weather was bad for parasailing – they told us that we would be landing on the rocks if something went wrong due to the wind that morning) for 400K rupiah ($40 USD). They told me that I was getting it at a steal – Mr. Kantin was like – you are so good at bargaining! – because usually it’s $80 per person.


The flyfish was cute. I didn’t want to do it initially (when I heard about it in the hotel room) because I thought it was literally fly fishing. Yes, the lovely art form of how to fly fish blah blah I know but while in Bali, what would I do with the precious fish. WRONG! Fly fishing is this huge inflatable thing that you stand in while a boat drags you. Initially you are lying down, but somehow (due to the laws of the Universe I suppose. Physics also.) there is a lift and you are raised into the AIR! All we saw was the sea because we were facing the opposite direction from the boat. I seriously thought I would fall out of the thing and gripped so tightly on to the “handrails” which were more like pieces of hose. Oh my. The whole time I was telling myself that even if I fell, at least I had a life vest :p.





Then we took the jet skis. They were legally obligated to have an instructor riding with you on the jet ski (in Singapore, you have to have a license in order to jet ski…much to Fpoo and my disappointment). At first I was a bit reluctant to go quickly, but my instructor was like ok you go fast and I will steer. So I had a great time with the throttle (even though my instructor was like slow down occasionally ^.^). I had a major wedgie when I got back though.


We waited about 10 minutes for the second trip, and Mr. Kantin was SO nice and bought us some Cokes to drink (because we had no cash left …boohoo). Eden threw a back tuck and spotted me for one. It was really difficult to set on the sand, so he had to really push me :(.


The second trip I was more confident and definitely had more fun riding on the ocean. Eden was a maniac and kept “bouncing” on all the waves. Crazy. He told me later that he was laughing a lot on the trip because there was an instructor with a very large lady in front of him who was struggling to get his arms around her in order to steer. LOL!



We decided to tell everyone that we were cousins (meaning that no one believed us) because I didn’t want anyone to know that I was a single girl. That would have just been really bad. Anyways, one of diving guys (who was totally ripped) had a big tattoo of “HUG ME” across his shoulders. We laughed about it for a while, and when he came back he was like: You guys are very beautiful! You look good together! But then another man said, I am beautiful too! And then HUG ME said “No, you’re a black stone,” and everyone laughed!

Then we returned to the hotel and had two lamb chops in El Patio (because I think I piqued Eden’s curiosity when I told him how delicious it was, regardless of the fact that they don’t ask you how you cooked you want your meat to be.

Then we went to our rooms and took naps. Eden wanted to check out the touristy place, so we went to Kuta, which is the “party place” (which I suspect started because the beach there is mainly for surfing). There were lots of shops selling touristy things (including…wooden…yeah my parents read this, so I can’t put in the word, but you know what I’m talking about). A lot of Balinese people tried to sell yelling out to us in Japanese, Korean and Chinese (Eden, being half Japanese, half Singaporean-Chinese, spoke 2) and asking if we were from Hong Kong. I just laughed and ignored them. Eden kept saying “No, thanks” over and over (so polite, eh?)

We were lame tourists and ate at Pizza Hut. Eden tried to chew on something that turned out to be a piece of a ziptie, and instead of demanding a free pizza or at the very least a free dessert, he asked for a blueberry milkshake. How clever (selfish).

We played a game of pool and Eden won. We also went to Seven Eleven, but quickly left after an irate guy (who I think was Middle Eastern, and Eden swears is Italian…who happened to LOOK MIDDLE EASTERN) who shoved the glass door open, and it fell to pieces. We went to buy our soda somewhere else!

Once we got back to the hotel, I ordered my favorite weakness: tiramisu.

Amber Restaurant @ Broadway Hotel

This is my second trip to Amber Restaurant. I made a lot of friends the first time, and it was sort of very nice to come back and relive some of those moments. It’s the first time I met Chris, who is totally awesome and has unfortunately moved back to ang moh land (USA). Enough of this!

So first came the papadum, which is typically served in an Indian meal. It is served with a hot green (chili??) sauce. It comes free with the meal, so we kept it flowing to the table. I love the sauce (in moderation, of course).

Jack ordered the tomato soup (bad move). It was a bit too creamy, but being a great lover of food and of a (questionable) creative mind, I decided to dip the papadum in the soup and add some of the spiciness on top. DEELISH!



Onwards! My friend ordered some chicken marsala dish


and I had the mutton that comes semi-dry with onion, garlic and GINGER (GOODNESS ME!!).


Ironically, he liked the mutton better (the marsala sauce was too creamy), and I honestly liked the chicken better (the mutton was too chewy). We also had two orders of garlic naan (well, Jack mainly aided me.

If I didn’t share, only one would suffice.) and some rice (because Jack is so Asian! Haha j/k….eh?). But I got full so quickly after stuffing my already round face (meaning, chipmunk cheeks) with garlic naan that Jack called Wayne for backup to help him finish the food.

And how could I forget the fried cauliflower that is a nice red color? And comes sizzle sizzle?


What meal is complete without some mango? I ordered the mango juice. My other friends joined later, and I was too lazy to write it all down. Sorry. Friday night came after a long day at work. So anyways,

Amber Restaurant is an 8.5/10 in my book. I will definitely come back in about a month’s time. I really enjoy the food, and the service was superb. Everyone has a big smile, and someone is always checking to see how you’re doing. There are even extra “serviettes” (in American, paper napkins) on the table. And I sort of am craving garlic naan again (while I munch on my Goldfish that I bought this morning). The price is quite reasonable as well. I think the total ended up to be about $15 per person (“pax” in Singapore, which I COMPLETELY resent because of my Latin background).

Riverside Indonesian BBQ at Plaza Singapura

I was very tired today, but I finally made myself get up and exercise the brain a bit. I met a friend to go to Plaza Singapura for some Indonesian Chicken (Riverside Indonesian BBQ) AYAM PENGGANG.

I know the picture isn't much, but GOODNESS ME IT IS SO DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I usually have two pieces of chicken. :(

The chicken is (I think, peeking into the kitchen) boiled and then grilled. The sauce is delicious, and the curry on the rice is great too. I'm not so crazy about the egg/omelet thing but to each his own.

Matchbox Twenty - Disease

Friday after work I went to Fpoo's house to help MamaM with her ladies-only dinner party. It was catered by her aunt, and the food was traditional Malay. It was so much fun, and I met some more new people. The best food though was the appetizer - lychee stuffed with minced shrimp accompanied by a slice of avocado and topped with a plum sesame sauce (which was heavenly). I might have snuck a piece of mango or two before the guests arrived. And Fpoo's grandma ("Baba") totally called me out on it ^.^ haha!! But it was a lot of fun. All the ladies started belly dancing, and I ran and hit underneath the table when MamaM called me to come dance too. She tried teaching me before the party started, and I actually learned that it isn't an easy thing. I'm not big on shaking the hips anyways :p. Friday night I stayed over and played on Saturday all day. Originally the plan was to go out and play some badminton, but the day was so dreary that we stayed indoors. The cedele bakery has this delicious blueberry chocolate cake with cheesecake and crushed pecan filling (in layers). SO DELICIOUS. I finished the rest the next morning ^.^!

Friday night was fun because even though I was exhausted, I stayed up so late just to talk about martial arts (and learn a few cool moves from muay thai!) from Fpoo. He's leaving this Wednesday, so yeah :( it's the last time we'll be able to just hang out for a while. So Saturday was watching some Sarah Brightman and lazying around. Saturday night we went to eat a Banana Leaf, which is in Little India. The food wasn't bad! (But my farts may have been especially vicious afterwards LOL!)

What else....food.....yes so then Faruq and I met up with St.Ha. at New Asia Bar (which was closed, so we were on the 70th floor of the Swissotel instead) to watch the fireworks. Then we met up with YC and his girlfriend Hazel (who is SO cute!!) at a live music place called Timbre. Then afterwards we went clubbing at the Ministry of Sound. I'm not the clubbing type at all, but we all had fun. So what else? Afterwards I went home and eventually fell asleep. Today was such a lazy day for me - but at least I'm well rested for the coming week!!

Ne-Yo - Closer (Laksa)

Hi Baby!

On Friday I went to Fpoo's house for some dinner with his mom's family :). We had this awesome thing called "Laksa," which his grandmother cooked (she is a great cook)! And the three cats are all fatter now (they call "Trump" "Plump") hahaha so funny! I only saw Twinkle running around la la la oh Twinkle..

Anyways, we also played Taboo, and that was fun!! There are so many cousins, and I've met I think all of them now except for one or two. F's sister is so AWESOME! Really. I think you would like her a lot. She is similar to you! Except she is strong...like me ^.^! His family has been so nice to me. We also had an awesome meeting that afternoon, and I got to see the boss in action :)!

Then Saturday I went to this 'country club'-equivalent called One [degree] 15. It was really nice - and there is an infinity pool there - Fpoo and I swam for a bit! Then, I went to a movie marathon and played lots of texas hold 'em and tien len! hee hee. Then I went to play some pool until early in the morning - and I met two guys who are really good!!! They are scary good!! Ok, well they are good good great! yes optimissimi.

I also bought a new phone on Friday. Don't tell M/D :) j/k! Uhh...yeah it's really nice, and it is totally awesome. I have to think of a name for it though. Hm...Ideas?

So what else is going on? I am going to the National Museum of Sg today with a friend. I'm sort of running late! So toodles and take lots of pics in LA!!
