Return of Princess of Pop, now King of Pop and other news

  • A four year old Taiwanese boy has exclusive rights to a tiny plot in the Taiwan STraight from May to September [Reuters] It's an uninhabited tropical island that is supposedly gorgeous. Taiwan has been trying to encourage locals to spend vouchers that the government gave to every citizen in January to encourage spending and thus boost the lagging economy. The boy and up to seven family membesr can visit the island five times for trips no longer than three days. Sounds a little steep for winning something.
  • 2 out of 3 Britons lie about having read certain books [Reuters] Orwell's 1984, Tolstoy's War and Peace, Joyce's Ulysses, and the Bible came in fourth.
  • King of Pop Michael Jackson to perform live in Britain (maybe 50 shows) [Telegraph]
  • $1 iPhone application is quick reference for (medical) diagnoses [Medgadget] I don't know how Nokia or Google will be able to catch up with the large amount of applications that are readily available for the iphone, not to mention that ebooks from Amazon are also now available on it.
  • Google offers (very) recent earthquake information from US Geological Survey when you search "earthquakes" [Google Blog]
  • $8.4 billion alloted by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to repair and build America's public transportation infrastructure [White House Blog]
  • Got a tip for saving money? Go to the Tip Jar by Google [TipJar]
  • China (or what I refer to as "the mountain") declares war against unemployment [El Pais]
